  • MUSICIANS #2 A series of images I have made with famous portrait photographer Paul Mobley. I am working with Paul on his "Musicians" Book project in which he is shooting artists backstage before concerts, in their homes and at hotels while they are on the road. Paul and I brainstorm before each session and try to come up with ideas that best portray their personalities and artistic style. Wether it's subtle color and tone corrections or full out CGi and difficult composites, we do whatever it takes to make a captivating image.     2013 Digital Art, Digital Photography, Retouching
  • CELEBRITIES #3 A series of images I have made with famous portrait photographer Paul Mobley. I am working with Paul on his "Celebrities" Book project in which he is shooting celebrities backstage before concerts, in their homes and at hotels while they are on the road. Paul and I brainstorm before each session and try to come up with ideas that best portray their personalities and artistic style. Whether it's subtle color and tone corrections or full out CGi and difficult composites, we do whatever it takes to make a captivating image.     2013 Digital Art, Photography, Retouching

  • INTERSTATE BATTERIES: LASTS LONGER Art Director Ryan Smith approached me with an idea for his client, Interstate Batteries, that was inspired by stories from actual customers. The tales consisted of cars submerged in water, left on the side of the road, or abandoned after an accident. After returning to these vehicles the next day, to the amazement of the customer, the car lights were still on. Taking these stories, we took a playful look at how Interstate Batteries last much longer than conventional batteries. Each image was a combination of stock, cgi and some photoshop wizardry.

  • THE FUTURE OF SPORTS Sports Advertising Photographer Tim Tadder, and renowned GGi/digital artist Mike Campau teamed up yet again, this time on personal project, to create a unique sports series. Both artists explored sport in nearly every facet throughout their careers and decided it was time spin it completely differently. In order to create a collection of images that were not buried in cliches, Tim and Mike decided to create images voyeuring a new age of the genre.

Tim shot the talent in studio, carefully crafting lighting to match playing landscapes and props that were in fact to to be illuminated, all the while capturing the essence of sport in the movements of the athletes. Mike then created the environments and props cgi to match the same lighting and energy. Once the elements were all combined with effects and color grading, the team had a winner of a series.

  • MOTION IN AIR 2 As a follow up series to the popular, "Motion in Air" , Mike Campau turned to the talents of famous sports and action photographer Tim Tadder. Tim, shot the dancers (incredibly talented group) at their studio, while Mike created the virtual sculptures cgi, and cleverly combined the elements in Photoshop.

Keeping the same premise as the original concept, Mike made each shape unique based on the dancer's personality, style, and movements in the air. This time more dramatic lighting and darker tones were used to better match with Tim's patented look.
2013 Digital Art, Performing Arts, Photography
  • MOTION IN AIR This series of images freezes a moment of time in each dancer's aerial maneuver, and turns their movements into static sculptures that represents their motion and style. Original shots were stock photography and stylized to fit within the scene, sculptures and sets created entirely CGi.     2012 Digital Art, Retouching, Photography

  • ARCTIC CAT - TEASER ADS Periscope went on the prowl, searching for a studio to help with their pitch for a series of Arctic Cat teaser ads, and we were thrilled they tracked us down. Using supplied stock photos as a starting point, we created the eyeballs CG, exploring several levels of distortion until we found the one that achieved the desired "look." Then we manipulated the photos to match, stretching sockets to fit the protracted peepers, and adding other character to the critters. Everyone on the project agrees; the results are pretty eye-popping.

  • INTROSPECTION Paul Mobley and Mike Campau captured celebrities in a more personal and self reflective moment. We hope you enjoy these images as much as we did making them.     2012 Digital Art, Photography, Retouching
  • PEPSI ANTHEMS When Pepsi and it's agency Tracy Locke, where looking to pair up NFL players and recording artists, they had to look no further than the team of Tim Tadder and SeventhStreet (where Mike Campau is Creative Director and Lead Artist). Tim hit the road and shot all the players and talent in studio while Mike prepared backgrounds in CGi for composite. All final compositing and color grading was done at SeventhStreet.     2012 Advertising, Digital Art, Photography
  • BIRMINGHAM IN ADS We teamed up with BIG Communications to produce these images advertising the IN Birmingham Guide, a local-composed guide featuring the "inside scoop" on everything the town has to offer, from "well-known favorites to well-kept secrets." Coincidentally, we used some of our well-known favorites and well-kept secrets to create the images, which feature CG type and boxes, other CG elements and photo assets, custom brushwork to tie it together, and a stylized background composite. We're happy to be able to say that our first collaboration with BIG turned out to be a HUGE success.

  • SONOSITE ADS When Sonosite wanted to take their line of products to the Hollywood stage and create Movie poster style ads, they called on the illustrative story telling expertise of advertising photographer Tim Tadder. Clearly the concepts needed amazing digital artistry, Tim immediately contracted the unique talents of Mike Campau to create the backgrounds in CGI and stock photography. With some added special effects and that Big Screen flare Tim and Mike turned their products into the blockbuster hit of the year.

  • 2011 UU THEORY I present to you my two entries into the 2011 UU theory competition. This years competition was a little different as there were some rules and guidelines to follow that somewhat restricted what you could submit.

First, the image had to relate to the city in which you live... in my case it is Detroit, the "MotorCity". Home of the once Big Three and a long history of automobile manufacturing. Detroit also had the first mile of road paved with concrete in the world, combine that with our music heritage and diverse community you have my two entries for the UU.

Second, the 3 finalists' artwork will be put on t-shirts for sale in the UU shop, so the design would have to work on white unless you wanted your final design to be boxed on the t-shirt... which I didn't.

Third and finally, the UU logo had to be used in some way. You could alter it or modify it, but it had to still be recognizable.

Thanks for taking the time to look and to find out more about the competition go to:

  • SONY PSVITA When Deutsch L.A. was called on to promote the release of the new Sony PSVITA at the 2011 E3 conference, they turned to two veterans to pull off the impossible; four days of shooting, four days to turn around four billboard sized complex composites. Tim Tadder and Mike Campau teamed up to create the images of the PSVITA in everyday scenarios. Tim braved the streets of L.A. shooting day and night to get all the parts and pieces needed for the final compositions, while Mike combined all the elements and created the game consoles in CGi, with Tim putting his signature styling on the composed pieces just before the 72nd hour.     2011 Photography, Digital Imaging, Photo Illustration

  • MORE is MORE MORE
Sometimes "More is More" and that is exactly the case with this project. Periscope came to us with a new pitch idea, trying to "brand" the idea and word "more" to their client. With no comps or skinny lines as a go-by, we were left to our own devices. Using simpleCG and our innovative process we quickly turned out 3 of the key concepts, More Savings, More Green and More Choice. When it was all said and done, it left us wanting MORE.

  • BLACK LIGHT With contemporary environment and lighting, and a retro color palette, "Black Light" brings together the best of what was and what is to come. A virtual studio set was constructed using CGi and integration of the models (stock photos) were done in post.     2012 Digital Art, Retouching, Photography
  • "RECHARGE" Working together on a new collaboration, Sam shot this track star at rest with the idea to have him "plugged in". When Mike got ahold of it, just a plug wouldn't do... he proceeded to create an entire charging station cgi and finished it off with final lighting techniques and color grading.     2012 Photography, Retouching, Digital Art

  • ALICE Alice finally caught up with the white rabbit in this series we produced with GFX International's Creative Director Eric Olson. Eric scoured the model scene for just the right Alice, and the sole bunny audition required no call back, but its agent negotiated for a few more carrots. Using the client-supplied photography we began style exploration, working with Eric to establish just the right feel. We created Alice's Wonderland entirely CG, adding ethereal effects that may make you wonder whether your tea's been tainted—and if the bunny in the bag doesn't pull at your heart strings, then off with your head!     2011 Photography, Digital Imaging, Digital Art
  • INSANE CLOWN POSSE - ICP Photographer Paul Mobley asked me to team up with him on a recent shoot, featuring Detroit's own hometown harlequins, the Insane Clown Posse. It was an intense process – and not just because they made us wear face paint and chug Faygo.

After some early brainstorming and pre-production meetings with Paul, we chose our strongest concepts to execute on set. We were on a tight schedule and wanted to capture as many shots as possible, so we decided to shoot ICP on green screen at their own studio. Then we went on to Greene's Hamburgers in Farmington Hills to shoot the diner image. Next, Paul spent a couple days shooting downtown, precariously positioning himself on the edges of rooftops and coming back down to ground level for shots of dramatic Detroit architecture. And finally, the fun part — putting the pieces together. I created the balloons, Bomb Pops, and color block background entirely CGi, then composited the rest using everything Paul shot in the city. He dropped by the studio to work with me on some finishing touches and overall style decisions, and after a ton of strips, a few sliders, and a little bit of face paint remover we were done clowning around. It was a great experience. Now if we could only figure out why people kept calling me a Juggalo...

  • AMERICAN FARMER - with Paul Mobley When photographer Paul Mobley set out to capture the soul of our country's farm communities, he encountered an enduring rural culture that remains rooted in the principles of tradition, family, integrity and hard work. Traveling across the country from Tennessee to Montana, Mobley and his camera were welcomed time and again into the homes of over two hundred farm families, who graciously shared their personal histories and private thoughts, along with the fruits of their labor. Visit after visit, Mobley came to know the independent farmer's spirit from both behind the lens and across the dinner table. The result is a stunning series of portraits and direct quotes that collectively chronicle the life of the American farmer. Each image offers an unvarnished and intimate look inside the hardships and joys of a quickly disappearing lifestyle--one that once defined our national identity and now struggles just to keep a foothold.     2008 Digital Imaging, Photography, Digital Photography

  • Human Displacement This series of images makes a statement about the human form and the effects of nature, society and surrounding environments. In each case the human form was created in 3d then disfigured by a displacement map (created from natural and man made elements) resulting in something that is grotesque and beautiful at the same time.
